Carrie New is a native of Tulsa, Oklahoma. She began studying the piano at the age of five and the violin shortly after. She also joined the band program in 4th grade on the flute. Ms. New continued studying the piano, flute and violin throughout middle school, high school and college, participating in her school’s orchestra, wind ensemble and marching band.

Ms. New graduated with a Bachelors degree in music education from the University of Tulsa and a Masters of Music in instrumental conducting from Oklahoma State University. While at OSU, she studied conducting with Dr. Joseph Missal and had the opportunity to conduct the Symphonic Band, Concert Band, Chamber Winds and Symphony Orchestra.

Ms. New is currently in her 6th year as Director of Orchestras at Hayfield Secondary School in Alexandria, Virginia. She directs five orchestras in grades 7 through 12. Under her direction, all orchestras consistently earn superior ratings at District Festivals and National Competitions.
